Welcome to standage.netthe Standage portalDS 2010.02.25 - I've set a new standage.net record for time between top level posts. It's now 2010. DS 2006.10.08 - Two years since my last top level posting at standage.net, I'm pleased to announce new content at henry.standage.net, young Henry's first posting in well over two years. Nice going, Henry. Nice going, me. DS 2004.10.08 - As I'm geeking out over Standage history and the like - see link below, same date - I've checked out the meaning of the word standage. It turns out that Oxford has dropped it from the new edition, but over the years it's had several meanings, generally concerned with allocating space for standing things or people. Here's my favourite from Oxford - 1600 S. FORMAN Autobiogr. (1849) 8 They kept a stannage at our Ladie faier, and ther were many knavishe boies which were at play behinde the stannage, and often thruste downe their ware. Those knavishe boies. Dictionary.com lists a definition from Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc., specifically \Stand"age\, n. (Mining) A reservior in which water accumulates at the bottom of a mine. DS 2004.10.08 - It turns out there's a Standage family crest. I discovered it while checking if Google has indexed the site yet. Apparently, Standages are from Gloucestershire and were landed by Duke William of Normandy after the Battle of Hastings. How about that. It's all at the House of Names. DS 2004.09.17 - In case the site looks terrible, I've added a browser policy outlining several possible explanations. DS 2004.09.16 - There's new stuff at dominic.standage.net. The good times just keep rolling. DS 2004.07.03 - Joining the excellent 96 Gillespie and patgraham.org, henry.standage.net went live today.
